The transport strike staged by various transport groups did not have such an impact as far as Manila is concerned.

This, after the city government of Manila deployed over 300 vehicles in different routes to offer free rides to the commuting public.

It was learned from Atty. Princess Abante, spokesperson of Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, that 8,634 passengers benefitted from the free rides during the first day of the transport strike on Monday.

Abante said that on orders of the mayor, the free rides will continue to be offered up to March 11, the last day of the announced strike.

This will be from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and again, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, it was learned from PMajor Philipp Ines, chief of the Manila Police District -Public Information Office, that the situation in Manila remains normal.

The transport strike entered its second day yesterday and it is expected to last for a week.
