Isko leads launching of Manila Restaurant Week

Isko Moreno

OVER 80 leading restaurants in the city joined yesterday’s successful launching in four major venues of the ‘Manila Restaurant Week,’ with Mayor Isko Moreno leading the event with world-class singer Lea Salonga as special guest, where she sang her new single, ‘Dream Again’ which is now the event’s theme song.

The four chosen venues for the launch, according to business permit chief Levi Facundo who conceptualized the food festival, were the Manila Hotel where the event kicked off, Bayleaf, Lucky China Town Mall and Robinson’s Place.

Moreno visited the venues as a gesture of support to all other restaurateurs participating in the event and cheer them up to give their best and help in revving up the city’s economy amid the pandemic.

According to Moreno, the ‘Manila Restaurant Week’ is an offshoot of the’Manila Support Local’ campaign earlier launched by the city government to encourage the public to patronize Manila-based establishments when they eat, shop or buy any of their needs.

“We have a total of 81 restaurants participating in the ‘Manila Restaurant Week’ which will be held from September 20 to 27,” Moreno said, adding that it will be held every month for eight days (from Sunday to Sunday) until things are back to normal.

Facundo said Salonga and the New York-based entertainment firm agreeing to use the newly-released song for free is already a great privilege for the city of Manila.

Yesterday’s launch included media, celebrities and influencers who went around each of the participating restaurants to introduce their pix-fixe menus on livestream media via various and popular online platforms.

“The ‘Manila Restaurant Week’ is a citywide celebration of fine and casual gastronomic experiences and a vehicle for getting to know the restaurants in Manila, from the most prominent ones to the ‘hidden gems,’” Facundo said.

During the restaurant week, one can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner (taxes and tips not included) with available dine-in, takeout and delivery services. Each participating restaurant will offer prix-fixe breakfast, lunch and/or dinner at affordable rates to promote their restaurant by showcasing their specialties and new inventions.
