THERE are no more COVID-related deaths in Manila.

Thus reported Mayor Honey Lacuna recently, as she also announced the good news that the number of COVID-19 cases in the city continues to go down.

She noted that only 87 individuals took the confirmatory RT-PCR test within a one-week period and that of the number, only one tested positive.

Too, she said that recently, those who test positive are merely captured because many of those who have themselves swabbed only do so for the purpose of compliance as requirement either for work or admission to a hospital.

“Magandang balita po ito pero kahit na mababa na ang bilang ng kaso, andiyan pa rin po siya,” Lacuna said.

Lacuna, who is also a doctor, said it should be taken into consideration that many treat cough and colds as regular flu nowadays.

As such, those who have them no longer undergo swab testing, which she said may account for the low number of people taking the RT-PCR or recorded as positive for COVID-19.

So far, she said that more than 230,000 individuals have availed of the free RT-PCR tests which continue to be given in the city’s six public hospitals.

There are 34 confirmed, active COVID cases in Manila based on the most recent records provided by the Manila Health Department headed by Dr. Arnold ‘Poks’ Pangan.

Lacuna urged Manilans to continue practicing the minimum health protocols relative to COVID, such as wearing facemasks in places and events where social distancing is impossible, stressing the pandemic is not yet over although protocols have eased.
