BOC MICP

AS part of continuing effort of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to curb smuggling, the bureau through the Manila International Container Port (MICP) apprehended various goods during an inspection conducted on January 28, 2021 at Alamanza, Las Pinas.

Armed with a Letter of Authority (LOA) signed by Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, a composite team composed of MICP’s Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) inspected the storage facility and discovered various counterfeit and smuggled items.

Among those discovered was a clinic containing various Chinese medicines, cigarettes and counterfeit items such as bags and food items. The goods were estimated to have a value of P45 million.

Further inventory of the goods is underway for the possible filing of charges for violation of Section 1400 of RA 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tarrif Act (CMTA).

MICP as the country’s largest port remains committed to pursue its mandate of border protection and continue to fight against smuggling under the guidance of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero.
