PNP-CIDG agents seize nearly P300k worth of thermal scanners in Binondo

AGENTS of the Anti-Organized Crime Unit of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Saturday arrested a 51-year old man accused of hoarding and selling overpriced thermal scanners in Binondo, Manila, PNP-CIDG director, Lieutenant General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel said.

The official said that the suspect identified as Geoffrey Deetan was arrested during the entrapment operation in Claro M. Recto Avenue corner Aguilar Street in Binondo at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The suspect was placed under arrest shortly after he sold a thermal scanner to an undercover officer for P4,985 which is way above the Department of Trade and Industry’s suggested retail price.

The DTI said that a thermal scanner should only cost P3,400 each.

Recovered from the suspect’s possession were 80 pieces of thermal scanners worth P272,000 and the boodle money topped by two marked P500 bills.

Coronel said that the suspect is now being held at the CIDG-AOCU office in Camp Crame facing charges for violation of the price act.
