A man who was just released from jail after being acquitted for murder was killed in an ambush perpetrated by riding-in-tandem criminals Tuesday evening in Caloocan City.

Datukan Samad, 42, alias “Lastikman,” native of Pikit, Cotabato City, died on the spot from bullet wounds in the head and body while his cousin, Ismail Ampatuan, escaped unhurt.

Caloocan Police Community Precinct (PCP) 3 desk officer PO1 Roy Zipagan said the incident happened past 10 p.m. along Phase 10-B, Package 5 Block 57, Barangay 176, Bagong Silang and was reported to their precinct at around 11 p.m.

Investigation showed that the victim was fetched by his cousin Ampatuan at around 5 p.m. in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City where he was jailed for his involvement in a murder case but was ordered released by the court after being acquitted.

Police said the victim decided to stay for a while in his cousin’s house in Barangay Bagong Silang before returning to Mindanao.

However, while the two were riding in a motorcycle being driven by Ampatuan, armed men in two separate motorcycles blocked their path and repeatedly shot the victim in the head and body.

Ampatuan told police that the suspects only targeted his cousin and then immediately sped away towards an unknown direction leaving him unharmed.

Caloocan police deputy chief for administration Supt. Ferdie Del Rosario said they are still conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the motive behind the killing while a follow-up operation was ongoing for possible identification and arrest of the perpetrators.
