THE Commission on Elections has announced that the random manual audit during the May 9 polls will now be held at the canvassing centers of municipalities and cities instead of polling precincts.

Comelec Commissioner Luie Tito Guia, head of the RMA committee, explained that the decision to move the process was decided to ensure that venues will be accessible to the audit teams, as well as to make the audit more manageable.

“Alam naman natin na pag sa presinto yan, pagkatapos ng transmission, parang masyado nang madilim at malalayo ‘yan. Nagkaproblema rin kami noong mga nakaraang eleksyon sa deployment... Yung iba hindi nakakapagsimula agad at hindi nakakarating,” he said.

The random manual audit or RMA is a process to determine if there is a difference between the automated and manual vote counts. In previous elections, the audits were conducted at randomly selected polling precincts.

Each audit team will have three people, similar to the composition of a board of election inspectors, who will do the manual count.
