NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar yesterday described the result of the latest Social Weather Stations survey which showed that eight out of 10 Filipinos fully support the Duterte government’s war on drugs as a fitting morale-booster to NCRPO members who have been doing their best to win the campaign against drugs and crimes.
He particularly cited the members of the NCRPO Special Operations Unit and Drug Enforcement Units who continuously go after illegal drug personalities from the regional level down to the smallest police stations.
Eleazar likewise said that despite criticisms on their discipline drive or their intensified campaign to enforce all city and municipal ordinances specifically the curfew hours for minors and the ban on drinking in public, the program ordered launched by Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar D. Albayalde last June 13 will continue without any let-up.
Despite public’s criticism on the government’s war on illegal drugs, the Team- NCRPO will continue to implement the marching orders of our superiors. We will also go after violators of national laws and City/Municipal Ordinances. We reiterate that discipline campaign will continue to keep peace and order in the streets as ordered by the President,” he said.
Eleazar said that from June 13 to last Sunday, they have already apprehended nearly 292,000 violators of different ordinances in the metropolis including over 15,000 men who were found to be drinking in public places and some 21,700 minors for violation of the curfew hours.
“We have reasons to believe that we have effectively prevented the possibility that the apprehended violators of the ordinance against drinking in public could have figured in drunken brawls or worst, commit some criminal activities had we not hauled them to police stations where they were given lectures, some charged in court and ordered to pay fines,” he said.
The NCRPO chief likewise assured the public that they will be on their toes round-the-clock to keep the streets safe. “We assure the public that we will keep you protected at all times. I also take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the public for the continuing support in our anti-illegal drugs campaign,” Eleazar said.
The official recently received an award from President Duterte and Gen. Albayalde after the NCRPO was awarded as the Best Region in Anti-Illegal Drugs Campaign and Best Region in Internal Cleansing during the 117th Police Service Anniversary Celebration in Camp Crame last August 8.
