A 46-YEAR old man killed himself by drinking pesticide after police foiled his attempt to poison his 18-month old baby girl inside the house of neighbor in Kadingilan, Bukidnon last Monday, a belated Police Regional Office 10 report said yesterday.

Richard Catiel, a resident of Purok 1, Poblacion, Kadingilan first went to the house of his neighbor Andres Montalban, a local pastor and grabbed his child Asherey while holding a bottle of pesticide past 8 p.m. Monday.

Members of the Kadingilan Municipal Police Station  led by Staff Sergeant Danny Sordilla who rushed to the site after getting a report on the incident persuaded the suspect to release his baby. However, they were forced to grab the baby from the hands of the suspect when he attempted to put the pesticide on the mouth of his child.

After seeing his baby already in the hands of the police, the suspect reportedly drunk the pesticide.

“His body shook and his mouth bubbled before he lost consciousness and was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician at the Kadingilan Rural Health Unit,” said local police chief, Captain Patrick Castro.

According to Castro, they learned that the suspect had expressed his plan to commit suicide many times to his live-in partner Charamie Linongcay.

Four hours before the incident, the suspect also called her mother and informed her to get his body once he is dead.
