ONE of the longest serving contractual employees of the government can be found at the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
DILG Secretary Eduardo Ano recognized Lolita Orteza, 64, of the OPDS during their Christmas Party Monday afternoon for her dedication and hard work.
According to Ano, Orteza or Nanay Lolit to her peers and friends, has been at the Department since the time of former President Ferdinand Marcos.
“Andito na sya noong panahon pa ni President Marcos,” a smiling Secretary Ano told the employees of the Department who cheered the loyal sexagenarian.
Ano then gave Orteza P10,000 as Christmas gift.
The DILG chief also added some spice to the Christmas party when he announced the good news that the performance bonus of P5,000 was already released while another P25,000 is coming but only for the regular employees.
Although Nanay Lolit is not among those who will receive the benefit being a contractual worker, she said she was very grateful to be with the DILG for a long 38 years.
Although a contractual employee throughout the decades, Orteza showed no regrets as she was able to raise and help send her three children to school, proudly saying she already has an engineer and an accountant.
She recalled first working at the DILG under Secretary Jose Rono.
