FORMER Special Assistant to the President and administration senatorial candidate Christopher Bong Go is pushing for the creation of a Department of OFW Affairs instead of the Department of Housing proposed by the lawmakers.

Go said if created, the welfare of the overseas Filipino workers will be protected since a one-stop shop will serve their needs.

The administration senatorial candidate said there is no need to create a Department of Housing since the mandate of the National Housing Authority (NHA) is more than enough to focus on socialized housing through the development and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated housing development and resettlement.

Go’s statement was in response to the situation of more than 500 families affected by the fire in Laperal Compound on Monday in Makati City.

The fire victims were given temporarily shelter at the compound of Nuestra Señora de Gracia Parish Church in Bernardino Street, in Bgy. Guadalupe Viejo.

Go visited the fire victims and distributed cash assistance and grocery items to families affected.

He also promised to shoulder the transportation fare of those who want to go back to their provinces.
